What is a Charrette?

Details.

Definition: a meeting or workshop devoted to a concerted effort to solve a problem or plan the design of something.

Commonly, Make it Better community members ask for help to progress their ideas or initiatives. A Make it Better team member works with the difference maker to determine the suitability for a charrette, understand the challenge or opportunity and focus it into a clear question.

The difference maker, with the support of the Make it Better team, curates an attendee list and invites them to participate.

The Make it Better team then works with the difference maker to design the discussion and will typically facilitate the workshop.

Make it Better has two properties available to host gatherings designed to progress difference making initiatives, the Dining Room and Lab space are in the Melbourne CBD at donkey wheel house (Ground Floor, 673 Bourke St), and the incredible property in Venus Bay for retreats [insert link] to go deeper and slower over a few days at a retreat.

To defray the costs associated with hosting charrettes and related gatherings, the difference maker driving the project contributes $500 upfront. Make it Better covers the cost of catering; participants contribute $50 per gathering (typically 2-4 hours) for a seat at the table. (The $500 upfront fee effectively buys the first gathering for up to 10 people.)

If Charrette attendees agree to meet subsequently to continue working on the project, participants must commit to three further gatherings, a total of $150 per participant due upfront.
